Unintentional Minimalism
So my work just switched to uniforms, basically. I will now be wearing the same embroidered shirt everyday. And ergo, probably the same pants. Good news is I only work 3 days a week so it won’t be too bad, laundry-wise. But hey, now I can purge my closet a bit! I can see it now: one polo, one pair of slacks. Tens of race shirts. Not bad!
11 miler tomorrow and I may be more excited that...

Guess Who Climbed Her First 5.10 Today?

Someone should make a movie about running.
my30daylife:
Like “The Big Year” (which I just finished watching and definitely enjoyed), except about runners.
Maybe like, following the travels of an elite runner, an aspiring elite, a C25k-er, and…idk, something like that? Just seems like it would be good.
Have you seen Spirit of the Marathon? It’s pretty good and it follows pros and newbies!

You know those decisions you make where after it’s done you feel better about life, the universe, and everything? I just made one of those about my race schedule and decided to nix the 25k in early April to focus on the 30k in Austin near the end of that month. It would allow me to get the long run distances I need without feeling the need to taper or travel for a big race in the middle of...

my30daylife:
I love being a runner. And there are a few reasons for that: I like the actual act of running; I like being in shape and being fit; I like looking and feeling my best; I like knowing I can outrun the zombies when the outbreak hits. But I think— to me, at least — the best reason to love being a…
Truth. Especially the zombie part.

I had the pleasure of getting to meet capnmac today. Despite the cold and rain our meeting turned into three hours worth of wonderful conversation. ‘Twas a fun day!
(P.s: You better find that trail race!)
Yaaaaaay! Did we really talk that long?! It felt like 20 minutes. And I just got home and I’m already working on your race. :)

I would LOVE to master so many things:
Running
Rock climbing
Yoga
Meditation
Juggling
Unicycling
Road biking
Mountain biking
I WANT THEM ALL!! Why can’t life just be full of this stuff instead of work?

December 6, 2006
I was having the best tumbling practice of my life. I was working on fulls and variations of standing backs in order to tryout for Baylor’s All-Girl cheer squad when I started college in the fall. Everything seemed in place that day. I was performing well and getting more confident in my skills. After 7 years of competitive gymnastics at my town’s rec center, I switched to cheerleading...

You Know Your Life is Different
than you ever imagined it would be when you’re for excited an 8 mile trail run the next day. A run which is only the shortest long run distance for the next 11 weeks, culminating in a 30k (18 mile) race.
This from the girl who placed last and had to walk in her two mile high school cross country state meet.

"Have to" vs "get to"
Over the past few weeks I’ve been bogged down with my physics class. When I’m not working, I’m studying and when I’m not studying, I don’t want to do anything else. This has definitely cut into my workout time.
Since my first test was postponed one week, I now have extra time to study AND exercise as much as I would like. What I’ve noticed about this...

3:12:05
3:11:50 for yours truly. It was a pleasure, Johanna! An extremely beautiful course in the San Antonio hills, more rocks that I ever cared to see or ever want to see again, and I would do it again in a heartbeat. The cave start was way hardcore and totally worth it. Freezing cold, super muddy, waaay to much food and a great time with a great friend!

TWO. Read ‘em TWO of the trail runs I was going to sign up for were cancelled today. What’s going on?
The Toughest in Texas 10 mile was in March at my love Cameron Park in Waco and now the Dinosaur Valley half in Glen Rose in April.
I NEED MY TRAILS RACES, PEOPLE! Good thing I have backups…

Change in Perspective
When I’m out on the trails, I love it. Simple as that. I have never had a bad day out running (even with a lot Of power hiking). But even on a still-unusual-but-increasing-in-frequency hot winter day like this, a little part of me yearns for the end. For the water, the rest, the air conditioning. The food!
And then, even as soon as just driving away, I wish I was still out there. Screw...
Nobody Cares About Your Run: I Think I May Be... →

The way a normal sane person does New Years:
Ring in 2012 at a bar / party with legions of revelers, preferably fueled by alcohol;
Stumble into bed after partying until the wee hours;
Do not set an alarm clock - sleep until need for food / bathroom becomes too great;
Spend day on couch,…
Well said. And very true!

Apologizing for Fitness
Today’s Conversation
Person: “What did you do this weekend?”
Me: “Oh, I studied a little bit and relaxed and ran a race on Sunday.”
Person: “How long was your race?”
Me: “A 15k. About 9 miles.”
Person: “…you ran 10 miles this weekend?” (in a tone of great surprise)
Me: “Well, it wasn’t a great run and...
10k done, 5k to go
Wow, I need to remember I’m not trying for a time here. I feel GREAT!
And I’m in better shape than I thought. I haven’t been sub 10 min/mile pace in a year! :)

Finish!!
Again I say wow—that was great. I pulled away from 2 or 3 people at the end and I was alone crossing the finish line. It was oddly quiet but I felt like I won the whole damn thing when they said my name.
Tried to get it in under 1:40:00. I lunged for the 1:39:59 :) Now to stuff my face and go home and nap it off.
Ending the last quarter mile with a kick-ass Rush song wasn’t bad...
